Leap Year Rules

A year is a leap year if:
1. Divisible by 4 (e.g. 2024, 2028) — AND
2. If divisible by 100, must ALSO be divisible by 400

Leap years: 2024 ✅, 2028 ✅, 2100 ❌ (divisible by 100 but not 400), 2000 ✅
2026 is NOT a leap year — February has 28 days.

Key Date Facts

  • 1 regular year = 365 days = 52 weeks + 1 day
  • 1 leap year = 366 days = 52 weeks + 2 days
  • 1 decade = 3,652 or 3,653 days (depending on leap years)
  • 1 century = 36,524 or 36,525 days
  • Average month = 30.44 days
  • Average quarter = 91.31 days

Date Calculation Formulas

Days Between Two Dates

Days = (End Date − Start Date) in milliseconds ÷ 86,400,000

86,400,000 = milliseconds in one day (24 × 60 × 60 × 1,000)

Example: 1 Jan 2026 to 1 Jun 2026
= 151 days total (Jan:31 + Feb:28 + Mar:31 + Apr:30 + May:31 = 151)

Working Days Formula

Working Days = Total Days − Saturdays − Sundays (− Holidays)

Quick formula: Working Days ≈ Total Days × 5/7

Example: 30 calendar days ≈ 30 × 5/7 ≈ 21.4 ≈ 21 working days
(Exact count varies depending on which day the period starts/ends)

Add/Subtract Days from Date

Result Date = Start Date ± N days

Example 1: 1 January 2026 + 90 days = 1 April 2026
Example 2: 31 December 2026 − 100 days = 22 September 2026

For working days: Skip Saturdays and Sundays while counting

A typical month has 20 to 23 working days (Mon–Fri), excluding weekends. January and March 2026 have 22 working days each. July and December 2026 have 23 working days. The exact count depends on which day of the week the month starts and ends.
Use Mode 2 of our calculator — enter start date, enter 30 in the days field, select “Working days only (Mon–Fri)” from the dropdown, and click Calculate Date. The result shows the exact date that falls 30 working days after your start date.
A regular year has 365 days. A leap year has 366 days. Leap years occur every 4 years (2024, 2028). 2026 is not a leap year. Over 4 years, average = 365.25 days/year. Average working days per year = approximately 261 days (Mon–Fri).
Use Mode 2 — enter your last working day notice date as start, enter 30/60/90 days as applicable, and select whether to count all days or working days only. The result gives your exact notice period end date. Most Indian companies use calendar days for notice period calculation.
Calendar days include all 7 days of the week including weekends. Business/working days include only Monday to Friday (5 days per week). For example, 30 calendar days = approximately 21-22 business days. Legal documents, loan notices, and medical instructions often specify which type to use.
In Excel: =DATEDIF(start_date, end_date, “D”) gives total days. =NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date) gives working days (Mon–Fri). Or simply subtract: =end_date – start_date. Format the result cell as Number to see the day count. Our online calculator is faster — no Excel needed!
